Soft Soft Rava Mini idli..- Healthy and Tasty

I came to know about Mini Idli after my marriage, it is a very regular and famous dish prepared in almost  every house of Bhilwara. Finally I also tried my hands in it when I noticed that my daughter is showing much more interest in small small idli rather than big one. It is very common among every mother, what their choosy little customer loves to eat become the most common dish prepared in their kitchen. Same happened with me also.😃

My daughter loves to eat it in different styles, some time with her tiny foke, sometimes with toothpicks, sometimes as paneer tikka 😋..Actually we can serve to our guest and family in all these styles too.😎 Mini idlis are good in lunch box too.

    Method of Preparation

    1. Mix rava , curd , salt and water in a big bowl well.
    2. Keep aside covered for 20-30 minutes. After 20-30 minutes, if the batter looks thick, then add a few tablespoons of water to get a medium consistency. Rava absorbs water  so the batter might thicken after 20 to 30 minutes.
    3. Separate half batter and add half pouch of ENO / baking soda (1/4 tsp) to it .Mix well for 1/2 minute for fluffy idli
    4. After adding ENO, you will notice small bubbles in the batter.
    5. Heat water in a steamer, electric cooker or pressure cooker.
    6. Pour  little quantity of  rava idli batter in greased mini idli moulds. Use small spoon to pour the batter.
    7. Place the mini idli stand in the  steamer and cover it well and allow it to steam for 5-7  minutes .
    8. Remove the mini idlis from the mould with the help of a sharp spoon.
    9. Repeat the process for the remaining batter.
    10. kids like it plane too. See how my daughter is enjoying it.😘

    Process of Frying

    • Put 1 tsp of oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves to it.
    • Now add ginger garlic paste , saute it well and add all other veggies to it.
    • Grate the carrot instead of chopping.
    • Mix it well, add salt, black pepper and red chilly.*Read note
    • Add sauces and mix it well.
    • Now slowly add mini idlies to it. Mix it carefully so that the idli doesn’t break down.

  • Herbal milk at your home – uncountable benefits(best drink before and after bed)

Herbal milk at your home – uncountable benefits(best drink before and after bed)

When winter starts, my father-in-law started reminding me of the herbal drink(prepared with milk) that I always prepare for my family during winters.

Most of us know the benefits of ginger, tulsi(basil leaf), raw turmeric but still, I want to tell some more about it so that you may get the urge of preparing this milk for your family.

Many mother have the query that their baby catches cold frequently and what should be added to milk to make it more healthy and tasty. So I am here with a very easy and healthy solution for all worried moms.😘

    Benefits of Turmeric milk

Turmeric milk is an infusion of either dry turmeric powder or fresh turmeric root (rhizome) in milk.

    • Boost immunity Turmeric milk is an excellent tonic to improve your immunity against lots of diseases. It is especially useful in cold and flu because of its antiviral effect. Make a habit of giving a cup of turmeric milk on an empty stomach in the morning or just before bedtime at night to the whole family including your darling one.
    • Aches And Pains From childhood till now if I complain for body pain to my mother or even mother in law, both give the same advice. Have a cup of turmeric milk before bed time. Now I use the same nuska for my husband and daughter too. 😃This can also strengthen the spine and the joints in the body.
    • Menstrual Cramps Turmeric milk works wonders as it is an antispasmodic that eases menstrual cramps and pain. Pregnant women should have golden turmeric milk for easy delivery in her last weeks of pregnancy, postpartum recovery, improved lactation, and faster contraction of ovaries.
    • Turmeric milk is considered an excellent blood purifier and liver detoxifier and cleanser in Ayurvedic tradition.
    • Turmeric milk lowers the bone loss and osteoporosis. It can treat insomnia, make your skin glow, having turmeric milk daily treat eczema. This will improve the reproductive health in women.

Their are many more benefits of turmeric milk, but I think these benefits are enough for everyone to include it in your daily routine specially in winters.

    Benefits of ginger in milk

    • Ginger milk helps in conditions of cramping. Women often have painful cramps during periods – in such conditions a glass of ginger milk offers amazing relief.
    • This milk is very effective in cold and provide relief in sore throat when taken while going to bed.
    • Good for fussy eaters -Try this milk on young kids, who keep repeating that they are not hungry, they usually get their appetite very soon.
    • Ginger can reduce your cholesterol and sugar level.
    • Ginger is very powerful in fighting parasites, bacteria, viruses, colds, stomach aches and head aches.

Some important articles you must read

Benefits of tulsi(basil leaves) with milk

When mixed with milk, tulsi’s medicinal effect heightens and you reap the health benefits of both these powerful ingredients in one go!

    • It improves heart health, cure flu, reduces stress , reduces headache.
    • Disolve kidney stones – The combination of holy basil and milk is known to be an excellent diuretic, which reduces the uric acid levels and detoxifies the kidney, thereby dissolving kidney stones gradually.
    • Both tulsi and milk come packed with antioxidants and nutrients that make your immune system stronger and more resistant  to many types of cancers.
    • The combination of hot milk and tulsi comes with antibacterial properties that can cure conditions such as sore throat, common cold and dry cough, when consumed regularly.

    Ingredients required:

    1. 1-inch raw turmeric (kachi haldi) piece/1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    2. 1 -inch raw ginger / 1 tsp ginger powder
    3. Basil / tulsi leaves (11 or more)
    4. Milk
    5. Sweetener – sugar/palm sugar/jaggery. (optional)

It is very comforting to drink this milk on a cold night and cold morning.

    Method of preparation

Take a glass of water in a pan and allow it to boil, when the water started boiling add grated ginger , turmeric  and tulsi to it.

Now lower the flame. When 1/4th of water remain add sweetener( sugar/ jaggery/  palm candy any one of these). Sweetener is completely optional. I used small quantity of jaggery.

When the sweetener dissolve completely strain this yellow water to the hot milk. Allow the milk to boil just for few seconds so that all the ingredients dissolve well in milk.

You can also use any of these ingredients separately according to your requirements.
Earlier I used to boil these ingredients directly in milk, but this leads to the thickening of milk  because of continuous boiling and become  heavy to digest specially for kids.

    Note:

    • Check for allergies before you consume turmeric milk. Those reporting allergic reactions experience mild and itchy rashes, typically on the neck or face.
    • Pregnant women should avoid taking too much of turmeric as it can cause uterine wall contractions.
    • Over dose of anything is harmful. An overdose can cause heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, liver troubles.
    • If you like palm candy, add it instead of sugar, it goes very well with this milk and healthy too.
    • Good for 2year plus baby.

Feel free to ask any query related to the article. And please give your advice too..what your mother use for your family. Your suggestions are always welcome.😀

  • Diarrhea – causes, solution and home remedies for infants and kids

Diarrhea – causes, solution and home remedies for infants and kids

I can easily feel the pain of a mother when their baby is suffering from loose motion. It doesn’t matter sometimes that how careful you are…it can be happened with many reasons

    Some are …..

1.When baby is on exclusive breastfeed and sometimes mother take lots of spicy food. I remember when my daughter is in her 3rd month and I have eaten lots of golgappa(panipuri)– a spicy Indian roadside food😋 Next day it shows its effect and my daughter started passing loose stool many times😰

Solution : Mother please avoid heavy and spicy food when baby is on exclusive breast feed.

                    2. Children have a common habit of taking their hand or anything they found in their mouth. When they touch germy surface and take their fingers in their mouth . It become a reason for loose motion.

    Solution:

    •  Always sanitize the area where the baby plays  by cleaning with a good floor disinfectant cleaner.
    •  Always wash yours and your baby/kid’s hands with hand wash /anti bacterial wipes.

    3. Food allergy :

Food allergies are much more common amongst children who come from families where other members suffer from allergy. There are many signs of food allergies, sometimes mucusy, sometimes bloody, diarrhea is one of them. Milk protein allergy is one of the most common allergy seen in kids.

    Solution:

    • Avoid dairy products, except yogurt.
    • Cow’s milk-based formula – If the diarrhea is severe and has lasted more than 3 days, we suggest you switch to a soy formula for two weeks while the intestines have time to heal. Intestines that have been damaged by severe diarrhea cannot digest cow’s milk.
    • Apple juice, pear juice and cherry juice – The high sorbitol sugar content of these juices can worsen diarrhea. White grape juice is a good alternative.
    • Note – It is virtually never necessary to temporarily stop breastfeeding during the course of a diarrhea illness.

                  4. Food intolerance : Some food are heavy to digest .

    Solution:

Kindly choose food items that are easily digestible for babies.

              5. Intestinal Infections : Diarrhea can be caused by rota virus which affects the intestine and prevents absorption of nutrients from the food consumed. It causes very foul smelling, watery, green or brown diarrhea that can persist for weeks. Fever and vomiting are common at the onset of the illness.

    Solution:

Consult doctor as soon as possible.
    6. Drinking too much fruit juice Effects  Baby Diarrhea
When baby/kids have loose motion, the body become loose and baby show very less interest in playing because of weakness. When my daughter have a severe loose motion she is nine month old. She don’t want to crawl and even don’t want to sit, become very cranky.
Baby loose weight, grow weak and feel tiredness due to dehydration.

    Method of Preparation

    …………………...Making the batter…………………….

    1. Take a bowl and add Semolina (Suji). Add Curd and mix well.
    2. Add 1/4 cup water in Semolina to make a smooth paste.
    3. Add black pepper  and Salt. Mix Well.
    4. Suji might loose its consistency while mixing. If required, add some more water to bring to dropping consistency because suji soaks more water.

    Mouth watering Aam papad

Since my childhood I am a great fan of aam papad and in every summer vacation my nanimaa prepare it for me. But now because of health issues she is not able to prepare it.😔  But I don’t want to fade my childhood memories and want to make my daughter aware of its taste and goodness. Earlier she loved the taste of ready made  aam papad, because she never tasted home-made aam padad. 😢But as a mother I can’t trust its quality. So want to pass my nanimaa’s asset to next generation. And started preparing this at home. And yesss, my daughter love it’s taste and when she eat aampapad, I am also able to cherish my childhood memories.😊

So here is the easy recipe of mine manpasand Childhood ke aam papad ..

    2. Grind it well and make a fine puree.
    3. Put the mango puree in a pan and lit the gas in medium flame.pic1
    4. Stir it constantly till heat bubbles are seen. At least for 15 to 20 minutes. Time can fluctuate according to the quantity.
    5. Now mix the sugar and elaichi powder.pic2
    6. Stir it for 5 more minutes so that the sugar dissolved well.
    7. Try to evaporate the water for next 3-4 minutes. Its color slightly change after adding the sugar.pic3
    8. Switch off the flame
    9. Allow it to cool down properly.
    10. Pour 2 tbs of mixture into a small thali lined by foil paper and spread it well. See the images foe clarification
    11. It should be 2-3 mm thick at least  so that we can lift it properly when  it dries.pic4
    12. The mixture becomes very sticky as it dries up and impossible to lift up if poured directly without foil paper
    13. I tried muffins paper and foil paper. Foil paper gives the best result. Aam papad comes out easily from it.

Now comes the most difficult part – drying the mixture.😁 I ate almost half the aam padap in its drying process. 😛

    pic6

    pic7

I used solar energy to dry it. Put the plates in the porch from 10 am to 6 pm where the sun rays come after covering it with net. In some houses sun rays doesn’t come directly, so At least put it in place where warm air of sun come and switch on the fan it helps in drying it. It take  2-3  days to dry completely. If you want to store it for some days dry it completely, it become like papad.

Here comes your aam papad. Hope you all are aware of the benefits of mango. You can visit Mango Shake “Very healthy for babies/toddlers/kids for preparing mango shake and getting acknowledge with the benefits of mango.

  • 28 Iron Rich Food for babies/toddlers/kids proper devlopment

28 Iron Rich Food for babies/toddlers/kids proper devlopment

Iron is crucial for children’s health and development. An exclusive breastfed baby gets enough iron required for his body from breast milk. But after 6 months, foods in the form of liquids, purees and semi solids have to be introduced as breast milk alone can’t provide the enough nutrients, especially iron.

    • Not getting enough can cause iron deficiency anemia and make you baby more susceptible to illness and infections.
    • Low iron can result in tiredness and irritability.
    • Iron deficiency or low hemoglobin can lead to growth deficiencies and behavioral issues in babies and kids.

Iron is responsible for the production of red blood cells, in turn helping in the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. Iron provides hemoglobin which is the protein found in red blood cells.

    Iron requirement in body

    Age  0-6 months : 0.27 milligrams(mg)/day

    7-12 months need 11 mg / day

Butter milk- amazing healthy drink to beat the heat

Butter milk (chaas) is a very common drink and I know it is prepared in many houses specially in summer , still I am sharing its recipe . The reason is some days before my grandmother’s friend visited my house and I served her chaas.

She told me the miraculous ingredients that earlier people used to add in chass to get awesome results and they don’t need to rush to doctors for small small problems like we do these days.😖
    • Earlier I used to take tea after my meal, but when realized the good effects of chaas in my body, I replace my near to dear tea with chaas. Now the whole day I feel good after having chaas, no acidity, no indigestion, no heaviness.😃
    • Now my daughter also become a big fan of butter milk. I used to give her when she is very small around 7-8 month old. when ever I see the sign of loose motion, I replace his formula or cow milk(after 1 year) with butter milk.
    • It Strengthen the immune system, so very beneficial if we started giving it to our babies as a regular drink. All spices except cumin powder should be given to baby after completing one year.

Benefits of ingredients that we added to it…

Chaas is categorized as a sattvic food in Ayurveda

    1. Curd and water
    •  The main ingredients of chaas is water and curd. Made with cool, watered down curd, this drink is perfect to soothe the stomach. As you drink it the cool buttermilk tends to wash down the spices and calms an irritated stomach lining.
    • Since it contains electrolytes and lots of water, it is the best treat to give to your body to fight dehydration.
    • Many kids  are lactose intolerant  actually able to digest yogurt without a problem. If you’re lactose intolerant, drinking chaas is one way to make sure you get your calcium.

    2. Cumin powder and Black pepper

    •   This spices relieves the stomach from irritation caused due to spicy foods.
    • Very helpful for those who are looking to lose weigh, cumin powder helps in loosing weight.

    3. Fenugreek seeds powder(methi)

    • I am talking about methi powder that my grand mother’s friend advised us.
    • Methi not only add flavor to dishes and controlling diabetes to inducing labor, fenugreek seeds have had diverse benefits for your skin, hair, and health.
    • Fenugreek seeds have been used by women to increase their breast milk production.
    • Reduces cholesterol, reduces pain from arthritis, help in weight loss, improve kidney function, improve Kidney Function, protect liver, fight dandruff, prevent hair loss etc etc etc..Their are many other benefits but I think this much benefits are enough for everyone to include it in our diet.😉

    4. Dried Mint powder

    • Cures respiratory disorders like asthma, coughs, congestion, and cold
    • Good for stomach problems like indigestion, acidity, worm infestation, flatulence, colic, diarrhea, etc.
    • Reduces cramps – beneficial in reducing stomachache and menstrual cramps
    • It has a relaxing effect – relieves headaches, migraines and reduces stress and tension

     5. Black salt

    •   Indian black salt is considered a cooling spice in ayurvedic medicine and is recommended for many health issues such as constipation, indigestion, heartburn, bloating, flatulence, goiter, poor eyesight and hysteria.

     6. Rock salt(sendha namak)

    • It aids in digestion and is prescribed for laxative and digestive disorders. It improves appetite, removes gas and soothes heartburn.
    • It stabilizes blood pressure, maintain the pH balance etc etc…

    Note :

    • You can also chill the butter milk in the refrigerator and serve later. If possible use it in the same day.
    • If used after few hours, the spices settled down in the bottom and fenugreek powder become sticky. So it is my advice to blend it again before serving or serve it immediately after preparation.
    • If having cold, prepare it in normal water.
    • You can also add more water if required to thin the chaas.

But the best part is she enjoyed it and take it in her lunch box. I used little of my kalakari😜 to make her happy by making eyes , nose and mouth with the muffins(Prepared from the remaining batter).

This cake help me to gain lots of appreciation from relatives and friends who come in my place after holi.☺️ I just warm the cake in micro wave and add ice-cream as a topping.

So here I am again in front of you with a healthy recipe..

    must reading articles..

    Ingredients required

    • 1 cup wheat flour
    • 1 cup sugar powder(can also use palm sugar powder)
    • 1/2 cup  malai – That is always available in my refrigerator for preparing home made ghee. (If malai is not available 1/2 cup olive or any unflavored cooking oil can be used)
    • 1 cup  milk
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • Chocolate essence ( 1/2 tsp)
    • Coco Powder – 1 tbsp

    final1 final2

    Method of preparation

    • Mix all dry ingredients well(wheat flour, soda, sugar, coco powder) together.
    • Take a big bowl, pour milk, malai /oil and mix them well in one direction until it desolve properly.
    • You can use beater to mix the batter.
    • Add all the dry ingredients and mix well, you can add some more milk if  batter is thick.
    • Now add essence and mix well, always mix the cake in one direction.
    • Grease the mould, by applying butter to its surface and spreading some flour. The cake will come out easily if we grease the tin properly. See beat root wheat cake for greasing images.
    • Pour the batter in the tin. Tap it two times to level the batter.
    • Take some chocolate chips(optional), spread some wheat flour over it and mix well.
    • Adding flour makes the chocolate chips to be stable in the upper portion.
    • Spread it over the batter.
    • I prepared it in bati over, preheat the oven and put the tin over it for 55 minutes in low flame.
    • You can bake it in oven for 30 min in 160° after preheating it.
    • Let it be cool in the oven itself to maintain its fluffiness.
    • Take it out from the tin carefully and enjoyed it with your family.😋
    • I didn’t pour all the batter in the tin, and put the remaining batter in  muffins tray to make eyes,  and mouth of the cake😛 and insert half chotu munch  in the middle to make nose.
    • My daughter loves this idea and enjoyed it by clapping.

Churma – Prefect instant food for baby while traveling.

Churma is made using wheat flour, sugar, home made ghee and water.

Food is a big issue while traveling with baby.I remember when my daughter was just 9 month old, we went to Thailand. At that time my expert mother-in-law prepared churma for her because it long last for more than a week. It helped me a lot and my daughter took it easily because of its taste. When I reaches the hotel, I kept it in the refrigerator so that it last long. (more…)

  • Wheat cake- yummy and healthy

    Wheat cake- yummy and healthy

Hello all, very happy and damn excited to share my new experiment with cake. Earlier I prepared cake with maida ( finely milled refined and bleached wheat flour) as normally everyone do.

But when my daughter grown up little and started eating it, I didn’t feel good when she eat it. Every child has a  trust on his mother , that whatever their mother give them  to eat is the healthiest food ever. When she ate that maida cake, guilt rolled around me.😪  So I decided to try it with wheat, and here is the outcome in front of you all.😃 Now my daughter used to take it in her lunch box  and share with her friends too.

The taste is almost the same, even my choosy daughter say nothing and ate it easily as she eat that maida cake. “lag gai meri to lottery“😜
